Can’t receive emails outside your domain in a Google Group?

How enable Gmail group to receive emails from accounts outside your domain.

Gmail groups are a wonderful thing for administrators and users alike, especially when companies are on a tight budget or users simply need an email account for basic services such as subscribing to online forums. I won’t go over how to create groups or all the amazing things you can do but rather I’d like to address an issue many users report when using a gmail group, and that it is that sometimes they can’t receive emails from users outside their domain or that a sender outside the domain gets a bounce back message when emailing the group.

If you already have group and it’s working internally you’ve done most of the work, you only need to tweak s simple setting to allow messages outside your domain to arrive to group.

If you want to allow that group to receive emails messages from users outside your domain you need to take an extra step.

Make sure you check the basics: 1. users are typing in the correct email address for the group, 2. that users expecting the emails are members of the group.

Now that you have covered the basic…

Go ahead an open the group in the admin portal. Select View in Groups Service

Select Manage.

Select Permissions in the left column.

Select “group of users”, make sure you select Anyone on the web.

Save the settings.
